The Government of Navarre has signed a major investment agreement with HiTHIUM to establish a new battery gigafactory, marking a significant step in Europe’s transition to clean energy. The deal, formalized during an official visit to China, was signed in the presence of Pedro Sánchez.

The project will involve an estimated investment of €400 million and is expected to generate around 700 direct jobs in the region. The planned facility will focus on the production of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and cells, strengthening Europe’s capabilities in energy storage and sustainable infrastructure.

Navarre’s President María Chivite highlighted the importance of the agreement, noting that the project is expected to begin production by 2027. She emphasized that the investment reinforces Navarre’s position as an attractive destination for international industrial projects, supported by strong institutional collaboration and a well-developed industrial ecosystem.

The initiative is the result of nearly two years of negotiations and collaboration between the regional government and HiTHIUM. Officials cited Navarre’s advanced engineering capabilities, robust industrial services, and skilled workforce as key factors in the company’s decision to invest in the region.

HiTHIUM representatives described the agreement as a milestone in their European expansion strategy. The company expressed confidence in the business environment in Spain and highlighted the strong support received from local authorities throughout the decision-making process.

The gigafactory is expected to contribute significantly to Europe’s green energy goals by supporting the deployment of large-scale energy storage solutions, essential for integrating renewable energy sources into the grid.

This development also strengthens economic and trade ties between Spain and China, reflecting growing international cooperation in the clean energy sector. With this investment, Navarre aims to position itself as a key hub for battery manufacturing and energy storage innovation in Europe.
