Delegates from the Power Institute for East and Southern Africa (PIESA) conducted an official technical tour of JIVO Energy’s flagship 20MW/40MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Kanengo following the PIESA Conference held from February 23–24, 2026.
The site visit, part of the conference’s official programme, provided regional energy leaders with an in-depth overview of the facility’s technical architecture and operational capabilities. JIVO Energy’s experts outlined how the BESS installation functions as a key stabilising asset for Malawi’s power grid, supporting grid reliability and enabling greater integration of renewable energy sources.
The 20MW/40MWh Malawi BESS project is regarded as one of the largest battery energy storage installations in East and Southern Africa and serves as a regional benchmark for modern grid infrastructure development.
Delegates engaged in technical discussions on system performance, grid support functions and the broader role of energy storage in strengthening power systems across the continent.
JIVO Energy stated that the project reflects its commitment to delivering reliable, affordable and clean energy solutions to support Africa’s energy transition and long-term infrastructure resilience.
