French battery manufacturer Saft celebrated a decade under the ownership of TotalEnergies, unveiling a new brand identity and highlighting major advances in industrial battery technology and energy storage.
The announcement was made during a visit by TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné to Saft’s industrial facility in Bordeaux, attended by several hundred employees.
Saft, a global leader in advanced battery systems, has become a key pillar of TotalEnergies’ electricity and energy transition strategy since being acquired in 2016. The company operates across strategic sectors including renewable energy storage, aerospace, defense, transportation, and data centers.
“Ten years ago, TotalEnergies and Saft began writing their shared story, built on a strong conviction: the key role of electricity storage in the energy transition,” Pouyanné said. He added that the company remains focused on its target of producing 100 to 120 terawatt-hours of electricity by 2030.
Saft CEO Cedric Duclos said the company’s new visual identity reflects its modernization, growth, and closer integration with the TotalEnergies group.
Over the past decade, Saft has significantly expanded its industrial footprint. The company said it has deployed or is currently deploying more than 10 gigawatt-hours of battery energy storage systems worldwide through nearly 170 projects.
The company also reported strong growth in transportation and aerospace markets. Saft batteries now power more than 400 satellites in orbit, equip nearly 80% of commercial aircraft, and support more than 100 railway networks globally. In France, Saft supplies battery systems for the TGV high-speed rail network, including the upcoming TGV M trains.
Saft is also investing heavily in next-generation solid-state battery technology, which uses solid electrolytes instead of liquid ones. The company said the innovation could deliver major improvements in battery safety, energy density, and performance, with initial industrial applications expected soon.
Founded more than a century ago, Saft continues to position itself as a major player in global electrification, with operations spanning land, sea, air, and space.
