HiTHIUM, a global leader in energy storage, has been awarded a 4GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) contract by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), in partnership with Alfanar Projects. The deployments, located in Tabuk and Hail provinces, will be among the largest BESS projects in the Middle East, supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by boosting grid stability and renewable integration.

The projects will feature HiTHIUM’s ∞Cell 1175Ah long-duration technology within 6.25MWh Desert Eagle containerized systems, designed for extreme environments. Key features include:

  • Heat resilience: multi-layer insulation to lower internal temperatures by 8–10°C.
  • Sandstorm protection: fully sealed components with automated dust alerts.
  • Durability: critical parts rated for 40,000+ continuous operating hours.

The systems will provide services including load shifting, black-start, frequency regulation, and voltage support. HiTHIUM will oversee design, supply, and maintenance, while Alfanar manages construction. Commissioning is planned for 2026.

“This 4GWh project sets a global benchmark for gigawatt-scale storage,” said Dr. Keramat Fakhari, President of MEA at HiTHIUM, highlighting the company’s role in enabling renewable integration in extreme climates.
