LG Energy Solution Vertech has announced a major agreement with DTE Energy to develop large-scale battery energy storage systems across Michigan, marking a significant step in strengthening the state’s clean energy infrastructure.

Under the agreement, LG Energy Solution Vertech will supply battery energy storage systems for eight projects that together will provide 1.5 gigawatts of battery storage capacity, equivalent to 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The battery systems are scheduled to be delivered over a two-year period.

The projects are designed to improve grid reliability by storing electricity during periods of excess power generation and supplying energy during peak demand hours. The systems are expected to help reduce pressure on the electricity grid and minimise the need for frequent power generation adjustments as demand fluctuates.

LG Energy Solution stated that the battery cells for the projects will be manufactured in Michigan as well as at other facilities across the United States and Canada, ensuring compliance with domestic content requirements.

Jaehong Park, Chief Executive Officer and President of LG Energy Solution Vertech, said Michigan remains a key manufacturing hub for the company.

“We’re thrilled to work with DTE to bring Michigan-made energy storage to our communities. As more US-made energy storage projects are added to the grid, we’re creating opportunities for advanced roles that support national energy needs,” Park said.

DTE Energy President and CEO Joi Harris described the partnership as a major boost for Michigan’s economy and clean energy ambitions.

“By working with LG Energy Solution Vertech, we’re keeping Michigan at the forefront of technology and economic opportunity while improving reliability for our customers and investing in clean energy solutions,” Harris stated.

The agreement also supports DTE Energy’s strategy for responsible data center development in the state. According to the company, the battery storage systems funded through its approved Oracle data center project in Saline Township will independently meet DTE’s share of Michigan’s 2030 clean energy standard requirement for battery storage.

The partnership comes as energy companies increasingly invest in large-scale battery storage to support renewable energy integration, grid resilience, and growing electricity demand from industries such as data centers and electric mobility.

Together, LG Energy Solution Vertech and DTE Energy said the collaboration represents a major step toward building a cleaner, more resilient, and economically sustainable energy future for Michigan.
