In a significant stride towards Taiwan’s energy transformation, Fluence (NASDAQ: FLNC), a global leader in energy storage solutions, in collaboration with TECO Electric & Machinery Co. (TECO), proudly announces the commencement of operations for the 60 MW / 80 MWh Longtan battery-based energy storage system. Located at the Taoyuan Longtan ultra-high voltage substation, this project is a groundbreaking initiative by Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) and represents a remarkable achievement in the country’s journey towards net-zero transformation.
The Longtan energy storage system, Taipower’s largest storage project in Taiwan, boasts an installed capacity equivalent to the daily electricity consumption of nearly 8,000 households. Accounting for 37.5 percent of Taipower’s storage capacity, it serves as a pivotal milestone in Taiwan’s pursuit of a net-zero future.
Jan Teichmann, SVP & President APAC at Fluence, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with TECO and the successful delivery of Taiwan’s largest government energy storage project. Teichmann stated, “Fluence has more than 15 years of experience in designing, engineering, and delivering large-scale energy storage systems globally. We are very honored to deepen and expand our long-term partnership with TECO through our cross-regional team and technology collaboration. Leveraging the global experience and advanced technology of the Fluence team, combined with TECO’s expertise in large-scale energy storage system construction, we have jointly delivered Taiwan’s largest government energy storage project with proven technology and superior services that exceeded Taipower’s technical requirements. It further demonstrates our long-term commitment to Taiwan’s energy transition.”
Taipower’s Longtan energy storage system is a crucial component of the Taiwan government’s strategic energy plan. As the country integrates a significant amount of offshore wind power into the Taipower system in the future, the energy storage system will play a pivotal role in stabilizing the power grid.
Safety remains a top priority for Fluence, which has deployed over 7 GW of energy storage systems in 47 markets globally. The Fluence fleet, known for its strong safety record, ensures comprehensive safety measures throughout the energy storage system lifecycle to safeguard people and assets.
Teichmann emphasized, “Looking ahead, Fluence will continue to work with local partners to expand energy storage business opportunities in Taiwan. Energy storage is the key enabler that will help accelerate Taiwan’s energy transformation.”
