SolarEdge Technologies, Inc., a global leader in smart energy solutions, has announced its first commercial battery installations in Germany, signaling strong early demand for its newly launched CSS-OD commercial storage system. The company has secured more than 150 orders—amounting to over 15MWh of storage capacity—within the initial weeks of launch, positioning the product for rapid adoption in Europe’s largest solar self-consumption market. The first dozen installations are already operational across Germany.

Optimized specifically for SolarEdge PV systems, the CSS-OD is designed for both indoor and outdoor commercial and industrial (C&I) deployments. Each unit combines a 102.4 kWh battery cabinet with a 50 kW inverter, and can be scaled up to 1 MWh per site. The system enables SolarEdge installers to provide a fully integrated solar-plus-storage solution at a time when more European businesses are transitioning away from net metering and adopting self-consumption models.

Naama Ohana, Chief Commercial & Industrial Division at SolarEdge, said the initial response has surpassed expectations. “The market response to the CSS-OD has been exciting, creating a strong new revenue stream that taps into our leading C&I solar business. With many countries in Europe shifting away from net metering and becoming self-consumption markets, the commercial storage segment is steadily growing,” she noted. Ohana added that emerging applications such as dynamic tariffs, peak shaving, and grid flexibility are accelerating the shift toward energy storage.

One of the earliest installations is located at the headquarters of WG Solar Concept GmbH in Nufringen, Baden-Württemberg. The German solar installer deployed two CSS-OD units to maximize the use of solar power from its existing 280 kWp SolarEdge rooftop PV system. Integrated through SolarEdge’s advanced ONE for C&I energy management platform, the system is now enabling the company to operate almost entirely on self-generated solar energy.

Nils Rufle, Managing Director at WG Solar Concept GmbH, highlighted the immediate benefits. “Having installed SolarEdge’s power-optimized C&I solar systems for over a decade, we’ve witnessed first-hand the high energy yields and attractive ROI they provide businesses. The addition of the CSS-OD has had an immediate impact on our business, integrating seamlessly with our solar system to now power our operations with significantly higher self-consumption,” he said.

With robust early demand across Germany and other European markets, SolarEdge expects the CSS-OD to play a pivotal role in accelerating commercial solar-plus-storage adoption in the region.
