In a landmark move for India’s clean energy and storage ecosystem, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has made a strategic equity investment in OMC Power, a leading distributed renewable energy (DRE) company. The collaboration aims to accelerate India’s transition toward a 1 GWp clean energy portfolio and pioneer battery repurposing and storage-based innovations derived from the electric mobility sector.

This partnership merges Honda’s global technological expertise with OMC’s deep rural and distributed energy experience, reinforcing India’s ambitions under the Make in India and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiatives. The alliance supports Honda’s global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, while strengthening India’s circular economy through sustainable energy models.

Rohit Chandra, Co-Founder & CEO of OMC Power, said, “This partnership with Honda marks a pivotal moment in OMC’s journey. Together, we are unlocking a new era of sustainable innovation by integrating energy storage solutions into distributed systems. By combining global expertise with India’s entrepreneurial spirit, we are building scalable solutions that will shape the future of storage-based clean energy.”

The collaboration builds on prior studies where Honda and OMC successfully repurposed detachable batteries from Honda’s electric two- and three-wheelers for stationary energy applications. These reused batteries have already been deployed to power rural schools, telecom towers, solar rooftops, small businesses, and clinics, demonstrating their reliability and sustainability.

Starting January 2026, the initiative will expand nationwide, extending the life cycle of EV batteries and enabling storage-based clean energy systems across remote regions.

Minoru Kato, Executive Officer and Chief of Motorcycle and Power Products Operations, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., stated, “Honda believes that electrified mobility products can contribute not only to transportation but also to local energy systems. In India, we aim to build a resource-circulating value chain by repurposing end-of-life EV batteries to support communities and enhance energy resilience.”

Through this alliance, Honda and OMC Power will jointly develop advanced energy storage solutions for applications such as mini-grid stabilization, telecom infrastructure, and rooftop hybrid solar systems. The partnership will also establish Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) and battery reuse verticals, positioning OMC as a key player in India’s emerging energy storage and circular economy ecosystem.
