Argentina’s ambitious push toward grid modernization through battery energy storage has received an enthusiastic response, with CAMMESA (Compañía Administradora del Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico) confirming the submission of 27 project proposals from 15 companies under its AlmaGBA program. The initiative aims to deploy 500 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the Greater Buenos Aires Area (GBA), but the submitted capacity has far exceeded expectations—reaching a combined 1,347 MW

This national and international open call, part of Resolution SE 67/2025, marks Argentina’s first large-scale effort to integrate new electricity storage infrastructure into urban distribution networks. The proposals span across the jurisdictions of Edenor and Edesur, with Edenor receiving 17 projects totaling 900 MW and Edesur hosting 10 projects totaling 447 MW

A georeferenced analysis of project locations, presented in the official tender document, indicates a strong concentration of bids in zones with high nodal impact—suggesting strategic alignment with grid reliability needs. Notably, prominent players such as MSU Green Energy, Genneia SA, Sullair, and Pampa Energía are among the key bidders. Project sizes vary significantly, with some proposals offering flexible capacities ranging from 17 MW to 150 MW

The AlmaGBA tender not only signals growing investor confidence in Argentina’s energy transition but also sets the stage for grid resilience and renewable integration. Evaluation of submissions is now underway, with final selections expected to shape the country’s storage landscape for years to come.
