Sungrow, a global leader in inverter and energy storage systems, has officially launched its next-generation PowerTitan 3.0 Energy Storage System (ESS) platform, aimed at utility-scale applications. Engineered for today’s increasingly volatile and complex clean energy landscape, PowerTitan 3.0 offers a new benchmark in flexibility, power density, intelligence, and safety for large-scale energy storage deployments.
The company confirmed the platform is commercially available immediately.
Modular Architecture and Environmental Resilience
PowerTitan 3.0 features a modular design that accommodates a wide range of applications without the need for redesign. It is offered in three scalable versions: the 10ft Flex (3.45MWh), 20ft Class (6.9MWh), and 30ft Plus (12.5MWh). Each version supports durations between 2 to 12 hours and operates reliably in extreme climates ranging from -40°C to +55°C and at altitudes up to 5,000 meters without performance derating.
Record-Breaking Power Density with 684Ah Battery Cell
A key highlight of the PowerTitan 3.0 Plus version is its integration of Sungrow’s revolutionary 684Ah stacking large battery cell. Designed for high-capacity projects, this cell enables up to 12.5MW/50MWh per AC block and achieves the world’s highest power density of over 500kWh per square meter. The design also reduces land usage by 45% and cable requirements by 10% in gigawatt-hour scale projects, significantly reducing capital expenditure.
In addition to its energy density of 448Wh per liter and a cycle life exceeding 15,000 cycles, the cell incorporates patented Thermo-Electric Separation technology. This ensures the battery’s integrity during high-temperature events, preventing gas propagation and thermal runaway across adjacent cells.
Industry-First SiC PCS and Advanced Safety Features
Sungrow has also introduced the industry’s first large-scale application of fully liquid-cooled Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Conversion Systems. Each unit delivers 450kW with 99.3% efficiency and 93.5% system round-trip efficiency, enabling robust operation in extreme temperatures.
Fast Deployment and Smart O&M Tools
The system is designed for rapid deployment with pre-installed and pre-configured block-level integration. According to Sungrow, this results in a deployment time reduction of up to 17 days for 1GWh-scale projects. It includes intelligent tools such as:
- PowerBidder, an electricity market trading system
- PowerDoctor, an O&M tool that predicts 30+ fault types with over 99% accuracy
Grid-Forming Capabilities for Resilience and Reliability
PowerTitan 3.0 comes embedded with Stem-Cell Grid-Forming Tech 2.0. It enables black-start capabilities, synchronous grid-forming, and seamless switching between grid-forming and grid-following modes. With rapid 20-millisecond response times and broad adaptability to SCR ranges (1–40), it positions itself as a game-changer in grid stability and ancillary services revenue generation.
