EPointZero, the decarbonization arm of global investment platform 2PointZero, has announced a landmark agreement for the acquisition of a 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system from UAE-based Enercap by APEX Energy. This milestone transaction aims to support the development of next-generation, scalable, and resilient energy infrastructure in line with global net-zero ambitions.
The signing ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including H.E. Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero; Mohamed Hesham, Chief Investment Officer of 2PointZero; and Ahmed Amer Omar, Managing Director of APEX Investment PSC and Enercap. The agreement reflects a shared vision to position the UAE as a global leader in sustainable energy innovation and decarbonization technologies.
The energy storage system, featuring Enercap’s proprietary supercapacitor-based solution, represents a breakthrough in industrial-scale electrostatic storage. Unlike traditional chemical batteries, Enercap’s system uses a non-chemical, capacitor-like mechanism that behaves like a battery, offering faster response times, extended operational life, and enhanced environmental safety. This technology, which is being launched at scale for the first time globally, is expected to be deployed across UAE’s power infrastructure.
H.E. Mariam Almheiri highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, stating that it aligns with EPointZero’s mission to catalyze a low-carbon future by embedding cutting-edge, scalable technologies into modern energy systems. “This partnership with Enercap allows us to integrate innovative storage capabilities into infrastructure that must be smarter and more resilient,” she noted.
Mohamed Hesham emphasized the move as a key step in aligning 2PointZero’s investment portfolio with emerging energy solutions. He described the partnership as both a financial and strategic commitment that aligns with the UAE’s broader goals of sustainable innovation and economic diversification.
Ahmed Amer Omar, representing APEX Investment PSC and Enercap, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that the agreement marks a new chapter in deploying advanced energy storage technologies designed and manufactured in the UAE. “This initiative will play a significant role in addressing the global need for efficient, environmentally responsible storage infrastructure,” he said.
This deal reinforces the UAE’s leadership in fostering sustainable technologies and its continued push to become a hub for responsible, innovation-driven investment in the clean energy sector.
