Prevalon Energy has signed two major contracts with Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. to deploy cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at the San Andrés and Salvador facilities in Chile’s Atacama region. These projects represent the companies’ second collaboration, building on a prior 425 MWh BESS installation and reaffirming their commitment to driving advancements in energy storage technology to support Chile’s renewable energy goals.

The San Andrés facility will feature a five-hour, 210 MWh battery storage system, while the Salvador site will house a 100 MWh, five-hour storage unit. Both systems will use Prevalon’s HD 511 liquid-cooled AC solution and incorporate advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology, Power Conversion Systems (PCS) with inverters, medium-voltage transformers, and Prevalon’s U.S.-made Energy Management System (EMS) equipped with a SCADA interface. Certified to IEC 62443-5-1 Level Two cybersecurity standards, the EMS provides robust protection against cyber threats and meets the stringent safety standards UL 1973, UL 9540, and NFPA 855-2023.

Set for completion in 2026, these systems are expected to boost grid stability and support Chile’s decarbonization efforts by integrating more renewable energy into the grid and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Prevalon Energy’s President and CEO, Tom Cornell, emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “These projects are pivotal in advancing energy storage technology, modernizing energy infrastructure, ensuring grid reliability, and fostering a sustainable energy future. We are proud to support Chile’s energy transition with these innovative solutions.”

Innergex’s President and CEO, Michel Letellier, added, “These new BESS projects with Prevalon Energy underscore our shared commitment to driving Chile’s energy transition forward. With these systems, we’re enhancing grid stability and reinforcing our dedication to sustainable energy solutions that reduce fossil fuel reliance.”

Through this partnership, Prevalon Energy and Innergex aim to strengthen Chile’s renewable energy sector and contribute to a sustainable, resilient energy infrastructure for the future.
