OREM, the ORIX Renewable Energy Management Corporation, has announced its entry into the operation and maintenance (O&M) services for energy storage plants. With a successful track record in providing contracted O&M services for approximately 700MW across 186 solar power plants in Japan since its inception in 2018, OREM aims to leverage its expertise to maximize the efficiency of energy storage plants.

Utilizing preventive O&M methods that incorporate AI and digital technologies, OREM has achieved notable improvements in power generation, including a more than 4% enhancement in PR value within a year of implementing O&M services for solar power plants under ORIX Group. With a team of 75 chief electrical engineers, OREM is well-equipped to expand its O&M services nationwide for energy storage plants.

As part of its inaugural service for energy storage facilities, OREM has secured a contract to oversee safety during construction and provide ongoing O&M services for the Kinokawa Substation. This substation, set to commence commercial operations in 2024 under a joint initiative by Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. and ORIX, will benefit from comprehensive O&M services including equipment inspection, repair, on-site management, and parts inventory control.

Given the variability of renewable energy sources like solar and wind, which can lead to fluctuations in power generation, the role of energy storage facilities becomes crucial in ensuring a stable electricity supply. By expanding its O&M services to include energy storage plants alongside existing solar power plants, OREM aims to contribute to the promotion of renewable energy and the establishment of a sustainable society by facilitating a reliable electricity supply infrastructure.
