Spearmint Energy, a pioneering renewable energy firm driving the clean energy revolution through advanced battery storage, proudly announced the successful launch of Revolution, their monumental 150 MW, 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in West Texas. This project, Revolution, stands among the largest of its kind in the US, now actively supporting a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and resilient power grid across ERCOT for homes and businesses.
A skilled workforce comprising 34 Mortenson craft team members and partners, investing approximately 42,000 working hours, orchestrated the installation of 134 battery containers housing 6,432 Sungrow battery modules, along with 45 power conversion system (PCS) units at the Revolution site. The project’s on-time completion, within budget, and maintaining a 100% injury-free record demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
Andrew Waranch, Founder, President, and CEO of Spearmint Energy, expressed pride in Revolution’s launch, highlighting its significance as the company’s inaugural large-scale storage endeavor ensuring consistent energy delivery across ERCOT. Waranch acknowledged the dedication of partners such as Mortenson and Sungrow, emphasizing their tireless efforts in the construction and commissioning phases. He also underscored Spearmint’s readiness to cater to Texas’ increasing electricity demand amid climate challenges and escalating oil and gas prices.
Revolution’s inception involved a collaborative effort with Mortenson and culminated in mechanical completion with the integration of Sungrow’s PowerTitan Series battery storage system. Moreover, in a noteworthy development, Spearmint secured a $92 million tax equity investment in Revolution from Greenprint Capital Management, utilizing the Investment Tax Credit structure—an application marking a significant step in standalone battery energy storage post the Inflation Reduction Act’s enactment.
