Youwind has launched a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) module on its web-based wind energy SaaS platform, enabling developers to design, analyse and optimise hybrid wind and storage projects within a single integrated environment.
The launch comes at a time when energy storage is becoming increasingly important in renewable energy projects. According to BloombergNEF, global energy storage capacity is expected to grow more than fivefold by 2030, driven by rising grid constraints, curtailment challenges and the need to stabilise volatile energy markets.
As hybrid wind-plus-storage projects emerge as the new standard in project development, developers are facing greater complexity in evaluating projects. In addition to energy yield, projects now need to be assessed for grid integration, revenue optimisation and market participation strategies. However, many developers still rely on separate tools for wind and storage analysis.
With its new BESS module, Youwind aims to address this challenge by offering an integrated workflow that combines wind and storage analysis from the earliest stages of project development. The company stated that the module can help users work five to ten times faster than conventional fragmented desktop software.
The module allows developers to identify optimal project locations, design and customise storage layouts, and evaluate both technical and financial performance under multiple scenarios. By integrating these functions into a single platform, the company said developers can make faster and more informed decisions while reducing uncertainty during early-stage development.
Youwind also noted that developers are now evaluating 10 to 20 times more project scenarios than they were five years ago, as they seek to optimise hybrid configurations and maximise project value in increasingly competitive energy markets.
“Hybridisation is no longer optional; it is becoming a fundamental part of project development,” said Anna Rivera, CEO of Youwind. “With the addition of BESS, we are helping developers move away from fragmented workflows and towards a more integrated, efficient and data-driven way of designing energy projects.”
The platform supports standalone storage applications as well as hybrid onshore and offshore wind projects globally. Through the launch of the new module, Youwind said it aims to strengthen its position as a digital solution provider for early-stage wind project development.
