Luminous Commissions 500 MWh Lithium-Ion Battery and BESS Assembly Line in Himachal Pradesh

Luminous Power Technologies, a leading consumer energy solutions company in India, has inaugurated its first lithium-ion battery assembly line at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, marking a major milestone in its efforts to strengthen advanced energy storage manufacturing capabilities.

The newly commissioned facility features a production capacity of 500 MWh and integrates advanced robotic automation and precision-driven manufacturing processes to ensure high quality, safety, and performance standards across lithium-ion battery packs. The initiative reinforces Luminous’ long-term commitment to next-generation energy technologies and localisation of manufacturing.

Rajiv Ganju, Senior Vice President – Manufacturing & Global Supply Chain at Luminous Power Technologies, said the new assembly line enhances the company’s integrated manufacturing and supply chain capabilities while enabling precision-led, future-ready operations. He noted that the facility reflects Luminous’ focus on building resilient, technology-driven manufacturing ecosystems to support India’s growing energy needs.

The facility is designed to manufacture standalone lithium-ion battery packs, stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and automotive battery packs for e-rickshaw applications. It supports battery capacities ranging from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh for single packs, with system-level scalability up to 1 MWh, catering to residential, commercial and industrial, and electric mobility segments.

The assembly line also incorporates end-to-end digital traceability for each battery pack, aligned with the latest Battery Aadhaar requirements. This enables complete lifecycle tracking while strengthening regulatory compliance, transparency, and consumer confidence.

Ganesh Moorthi, Chief Technology Officer at Luminous Power Technologies, said the new facility marks the beginning of a long-term journey in next-generation energy technologies. He added that the integration of advanced automation and first-of-its-kind quality evaluation systems, combined with comprehensive digital tracking, will allow the company to deliver scalable, safe, and reliable lithium-ion solutions.

Beyond manufacturing, the assembly line supports Luminous’ sustainability goals by enabling renewable energy storage, reducing carbon emissions through electric mobility and grid applications, improving production efficiency through automation, and supporting circular economy practices through battery recycling and component reuse.

The facility is also expected to generate employment and contribute to local economic development in the region. Luminous said the project strengthens its positioning as a full-stack consumer energy solutions provider, supporting India’s transition towards cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready energy systems.
