Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has successfully concluded the auction for Standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Phase-VIII in Gujarat, covering a total capacity of 335 MW with 670 MWh of energy storage. The auction marks a significant step in strengthening the state’s power infrastructure and supporting the integration of renewable energy into the grid.

The tender was conducted through a tariff-based competitive bidding process and witnessed strong participation from renewable energy developers. The discovered tariffs ranged between ₹2.10 lakh and ₹2.12 lakh per MW per month, reflecting increasing market confidence in battery storage solutions for managing peak demand, enhancing grid stability, and improving power reliability.

Advait Energy Transitions emerged as the lowest bidder, quoting a tariff of ₹2.10 lakh per MW per month. Equentia Natural Resources DMCC followed with a bid of ₹2.119 lakh per MW per month, while Sun Drop Energia quoted ₹2.12 lakh per MW per month. Three companies were selected under the auction framework.

Under the allocation, Advait Energy Transitions secured the largest capacity of 150 MW / 300 MWh, while Equentia Natural Resources DMCC was awarded 65 MW / 130 MWh. Sun Drop Energia, which had bid for 325 MW, was allocated 120 MW / 240 MWh through the bucket-filling method adopted for project distribution.

The tender was issued in December 2025 and focused exclusively on standalone battery storage projects. The selected projects will be located at or near substations of Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation’s (GETCO) intra-state transmission network. Developers will be responsible for identifying and arranging the required land, with grid interconnection mandated at a minimum voltage level of 66 kV, in line with GETCO guidelines.

The Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) will remain valid for a period of 12 years from the date of full commissioning. The scheduled commissioning timeline for the projects is 18 months from the effective date of the BESPA.
