TESVOLT, a leading German provider of battery energy storage systems and energy trading services, has announced the launch of its new 5 MWh Tallon large-scale battery storage container, designed specifically for battery parks and co-location projects. The system will be presented to the public from 10 to 12 February at E-world energy & water in Essen, Europe’s leading energy trade fair.
With Tallon, TESVOLT aims to set new standards in cyber security, project flexibility, and service integration for municipal utilities and large-scale energy operators. Central to the solution is a proprietary battery park control system combined with European inverter technology, addressing growing concerns over the protection of critical energy infrastructure.
Proprietary control system enhances cyber security
According to TESVOLT, the Tallon system integrates the company’s own battery park control system, developed based on years of experience from large-scale storage projects.
“Many battery containers on the market look the same and rely on similar technologies,” said Simon Schandert, CTO and co-founder of TESVOLT. “We deliberately differentiate ourselves by integrating our own control system, which significantly increases protection against cyber attacks.”
All data connections to the internet are routed exclusively through dedicated VPN tunnels, outbound connections are configured as one-way links, and the plant controller is shielded from direct internet access by dedicated hardware components.
European inverters reduce dependency and risk
In response to ongoing discussions within the European Union regarding cyber risks associated with certain non-European inverter manufacturers, TESVOLT has ensured compatibility with European inverter suppliers. The Tallon system currently supports inverters from SMA (Germany) and Power Electronics (Spain).
“We identified the risks associated with certain inverter technologies early on,” Schandert added. “That’s why our systems are designed to work seamlessly with European manufacturers.”
One-stop shop model for municipal utilities
TESVOLT positions itself as the only provider on the market offering a fully integrated one-stop shop for municipal utilities. Beyond supplying the battery container, the company covers project planning, installation, operation, monitoring, maintenance, and electricity trading.
“What sets us apart is that we don’t stop at delivery,” said Sebastian Jänig, Head of Utility-Scale Storage Projects at TESVOLT. “We support municipal utilities throughout the entire lifecycle of a battery park—right through to profitable operation.”
Through its subsidiary TESVOLT Energy, the company also provides electricity market trading services, working with multiple power traders who compete against each other to maximize revenues for customers.
Flexible, modular design with high safety standards
The Tallon storage container features a modular architecture that allows customers to select one or multiple DC outputs per container and distribute battery capacity across several inverters. This enables optimized power-to-capacity ratios and allows systems to be expanded at a later stage.
The system uses heavy-metal-free LFP battery technology and is designed with a high level of fire protection, allowing containers to be installed with a spacing of just 10 centimetres. Thanks to its long service life, TESVOLT offers an above-market warranty of 15 years, compared with the industry standard of ten years.
