Canadian Solar Inc. has announced that its energy storage arm, e-STORAGE, will deliver a 408 MWh AC Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to Vena Energy for the Tailem Bend 3 project in South Australia, marking another major milestone in Australia’s clean energy transition.

The project will be executed by e-STORAGE, part of Canadian Solar’s majority-owned subsidiary CSI Solar Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Vena Energy and Balance of Plant partner Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd (CPP). The 204 MW / 408 MWh Tailem Bend 3 BESS will be delivered as a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solution using nearly 100 SolBank 3.0 battery containers.

Located in Tailem Bend, South Australia, the project is currently under construction and is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027. Under an initial five-year Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA), e-STORAGE will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the battery energy storage system.

Once operational, the Tailem Bend 3 BESS is expected to significantly strengthen grid stability in South Australia while supporting higher integration of renewable energy, building on Vena Energy’s existing portfolio of energy storage developments in the region.

Owen Sela, Head of Australia at Vena Energy, said the project represents a key milestone in the company’s growth strategy. “The Tailem Bend 3 BESS will be our third energy storage project in Australia, adding substantial storage capacity to support South Australia’s world-leading renewable energy adoption. It aligns with our commitment to developing utility-scale renewable energy and storage assets that accelerate Australia’s clean energy transition,” he said.

Colin Parkin, President of e-STORAGE, said the project further strengthens the company’s footprint in Australia. “Tailem Bend 3 marks the fourth battery energy storage system we are delivering in Australia. With this project, our Australian portfolio now totals around 2 GWh, including projects delivered and under construction. We are pleased to support long-term grid resilience and renewable integration in South Australia,” he said.

Canadian Solar is one of the world’s largest solar technology and renewable energy companies, with nearly 170 GW of solar modules delivered globally over the past 24 years. Through e-STORAGE, the company has shipped more than 16 GWh of battery energy storage solutions worldwide as of September 2025 and holds a contracted backlog of $3.1 billion.
