Waaree Group, one of India’s leading renewable energy solutions providers, has secured a 10 MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) order from a key Infrastructure Development Company for deployment in Tamil Nadu. The order further consolidates Waaree’s expanding presence in the country’s rapidly growing energy storage market.

This milestone reinforces the company’s integrated capabilities across the clean-energy value chain—from solar PV manufacturing and EPC to advanced energy storage, green hydrogen, and grid-scale infrastructure solutions. Waaree is currently ramping up domestic manufacturing with a 4 GWh battery cell production line and a 5 GWh pack-and-container facility, enabling the delivery of high-quality, fully indigenous BESS solutions at scale.

Why BESS Matters for India’s Renewable Growth

Battery Energy Storage Systems are increasingly critical to India’s transition toward a high-renewable energy mix. Key benefits include:

  • Round-the-clock renewable power by minimizing curtailment and ensuring better utilization of solar assets.
  • Improved grid stability, helping manage intermittency and address peak demand fluctuations.
  • Support for public EV mobility, enabling fast-charging networks and reducing load on distribution systems.
  • Enhanced domestic energy security as India rapidly scales both solar generation and battery manufacturing capacity.

Tamil Nadu Leads in Renewable Integration

Tamil Nadu, already home to over 20 GW of wind and solar capacity, is accelerating the deployment of grid-connected BESS to integrate variable renewable power. The state recently issued a 1.5 GWh standalone BESS tender, reflecting rising demand for large-scale storage solutions.

India’s National Storage Outlook

Analyses by the NEP, MNRE, and CEA indicate a requirement of tens to hundreds of GWh of energy storage in the late 2020s and early 2030s. A major ramp-up is expected from FY 2026–27, driven by renewable expansion, grid modernization, and storage-linked tenders.

Leadership Comment

“This 10 MWh BESS order is a strong endorsement of Waaree Group’s integrated capabilities and our commitment to enabling India’s clean-energy transition,” said Ankit Doshi, President – Strategy, Waaree Group. “Storage is the next frontier for renewable power, and we are investing deeply in technology, design and manufacturing to meet the nation’s growing demand for flexible, dispatchable energy. This project in Tamil Nadu reinforces our mission to build reliable, future-ready solutions that strengthen grid stability and accelerate renewable adoption at scale.”
