In a landmark step toward greener global trade, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world’s leading battery and energy technology company, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with A.P. Moller – Maersk, a global leader in integrated logistics, to jointly advance supply chain electrification and decarbonisation worldwide.

The signing ceremony, held in Hong Kong on October 9, was attended by senior executives from both companies, including Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller – Maersk, and Libin Tan, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of Sales & Marketing at CATL. The MoU was signed by Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Energy Transition at Maersk, and Akin Li, Executive President of Overseas Car Business at CATL.

Strengthening Supply Chain Resilience and Global Reach

The agreement deepens a five-year collaboration between the two companies, under which Maersk will now serve as CATL’s preferred global logistics partner. Maersk will provide integrated ocean freight, air freight, project logistics, and warehousing services, ensuring end-to-end efficiency across CATL’s international operations.

Both partners will also co-develop scalable logistics models to enhance supply chain resilience amid evolving global trade conditions. These tailored solutions aim to support CATL’s rapid international expansion while promoting operational excellence and sustainability.

Electrifying the Future of Logistics

Beyond logistics, the collaboration will focus on electrifying key nodes of the supply chain, including container shipping, port ecosystems, inland transport, and warehousing. CATL will provide its advanced battery systems, energy management, and recycling technologies, positioning itself as Maersk’s preferred battery technology partner.

Maersk has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, and this partnership will play a key role in meeting that target. “We’re combining CATL’s cutting-edge battery technologies with Maersk’s global logistics capabilities to redefine what’s possible in logistics,” said Morten Bo Christiansen. “This partnership is a powerful opportunity to accelerate the decarbonisation of global logistics—not only for Maersk but for our customers and the entire industry.”

Shared Vision for a Zero-Carbon Future

CATL, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its core operations by 2025 and across its battery supply chain by 2035, views this partnership as a natural extension of its mission. “Both CATL and Maersk are committed to promoting energy transition and achieving a net-zero emissions future,” said Libin Tan. “Together, we will deepen collaboration across shipping, supply chain digitalisation, and new energy applications to accelerate global logistics decarbonisation.”
