Fluence Energy B.V., a subsidiary of Fluence Energy, Inc., and DTEK Group, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, have energized Ukraine’s largest battery-based energy storage project, totaling 200 MW across six sites.
The systems, powered by Fluence’s Gridstack™ technology, provide 400 MWh of dispatchable capacity—enough to supply electricity to 600,000 homes for two hours. Built in under six months, the project is designed to stabilize Ukraine’s power grid ahead of the winter season.
Due to wartime restrictions, the project was commissioned remotely—marking Fluence’s first fully remote commissioning effort. To enable this, 20 Ukrainian engineers were trained at Fluence sites in Germany and Finland.
“This is a historic step for the Ukrainian energy system and will shape its development for years to come,” said DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko. Fluence CEO Julian Nebreda added: “This achievement is a beacon of resilience and a symbol of what can be achieved through strong international cooperation.”
The new storage systems are expected to increase supply security, reduce outage risks, and enhance grid decentralization, contributing to Ukraine’s long-term energy resilience.
