Mahagenco Renewable Energy Ltd. (MREL), the green energy arm of Maharashtra’s state utility, has floated an online tender inviting qualified consultants for the preparation of a Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) for proposed pumped storage projects across the state.
As per the notice, the appointed consultant will be responsible for comprehensive technical and environmental evaluations, including topographical and geological surveys, hydrological studies, socio-economic analysis, power potential studies, layout and design, and cost estimations. The scope also mandates assessment of land requirements, environmental and forest clearances, and transmission planning.
To be eligible, bidders must demonstrate substantial expertise in the hydropower sector. Specifically, they should have completed at least one consultancy assignment of a similar nature valued at ₹46 lakh or more, and show a minimum average annual turnover of ₹100 crore over the last three years. A positive net worth of at least ₹50 crore is also mandatory.
Interested bidders must register on the Bharat Electronic Tender Portal and pay a non-refundable tender fee of ₹20,000 plus GST. The deadline for bid submission is September 4, 2025, with pre-bid meetings and bid openings scheduled in August and early September.
This initiative highlights MREL’s focus on leveraging pumped storage to stabilize grid operations and support Maharashtra’s long-term renewable energy goals. By emphasizing sustainable hydropower infrastructure, the tender reinforces the state’s commitment to reliable, green energy solutions.
