Vanda RE Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Gurīn Energy and Gentari, has signed a significant framework supply agreement with global battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) to support the ambitious Vanda Solar & Battery Project in Indonesia’s Riau Islands.
Under the agreement, Vanda RE will procure up to 2.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of CATL’s EnerX battery energy storage systems (BESS). These advanced batteries will support the development of a 2 GWp solar PV plant combined with 4.4 GWh of battery storage, ensuring compliance with Indonesia’s local content requirement (TKDN).
CATL will manufacture the batteries at its newly established factory in Karawang, West Java, which boasts a total capacity of 15 GWh. This collaboration is seen as a key step towards positioning Indonesia as a Southeast Asian hub for battery and renewable energy manufacturing.
Enda Ginting, Country Manager for Indonesia at Gurīn Energy, described the agreement as a major milestone, highlighting CATL’s technical excellence and Vanda RE’s commitment to high operational standards.
This move follows Vanda RE’s earlier milestones in 2025, including a 1 GW solar panel supply agreement and appointment of the Owner’s Engineer for the project.
The Vanda project is part of broader efforts by Indonesia and Singapore to establish a cross-border green economic corridor. By attracting top-tier clean tech players like CATL, the initiative is set to boost local manufacturing, lower renewable energy costs, and enhance Indonesia’s green investment appeal
