In a move to fast-track India’s energy transition, the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) has submitted a comprehensive policy and regulatory framework to the government aimed at accelerating energy storage deployment across the country. This development comes ahead of the 11th edition of India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2025, scheduled for July 8–11 in New Delhi.
With India projected to account for 40% of global energy demand growth by 2040 and targeting 50% electricity generation from renewables by 2030, the need for robust energy storage infrastructure is critical. IESA’s recommendations span supply chain resilience, material security, grid integration, and regulatory reforms.
Highlighting the importance of strategic planning, IESA emphasized the integration of energy storage with power transmission and distribution. It also called for joint grid planning among national and state agencies, and penalties for load-shedding to ensure better grid reliability.
IESA President Debmalya Sen noted, “A strong regulatory framework is essential to ensure safety, innovation, and sustainability in India’s evolving energy landscape.”
The industry body also urged the government to support second-life battery reuse, improve the ancillary services market, reduce import duties and GST, and establish clear guidelines for recycling and disposal.
IESW 2025 is expected to bring together stakeholders from over 20 countries, showcasing cutting-edge technologies including solid-state, sodium-ion, and lithium-sulfur batteries. The event will reinforce India’s commitment to building a resilient and clean energy future.
