Global smart energy leader GridBeyond has announced a strategic partnership with ABB, a world-renowned technology company in electrification and automation, to roll out a new Battery Energy Storage Systems-as-a-Service (BESS-as-a-Service) offering. The initiative is aimed at commercial and industrial (C&I) customers seeking more affordable and sustainable energy solutions, and will be further supported by climate tech company Tallarna.

This new offering builds on ABB’s strategic investment in GridBeyond in 2024 and combines ABB’s extensive energy infrastructure expertise with GridBeyond’s advanced AI-driven energy management platform. The collaboration promises a fully managed energy storage service that enables real-time optimisation, supports participation in demand-side response markets, and unlocks new global revenue streams—all without requiring upfront capital investment from customers.

A core feature of the service is GridBeyond’s platform, which provides accurate energy price forecasting. This enables users to make informed decisions about energy storage usage, optimizing the timing of charging and discharging cycles. The platform’s capabilities are expected to prolong battery life and increase efficiency, aligning storage operations with fluctuating market dynamics.

ABB’s Head of Energy & Carbon Services, Lee Todd, emphasized the environmental importance of the collaboration: “Our partnership with GridBeyond reflects ABB’s commitment to advancing technologies that support the seamless integration of renewables into the energy mix. Together, we are accelerating the transition to net zero by empowering industries to adopt smarter, more flexible energy solutions.”

Tallarna joins the partnership to provide its data analytics software, insurance solutions, and financing tools, aimed at de-risking BESS projects. The company’s expertise will help bring visibility into the financial benefits of energy storage and support customers in evaluating the feasibility and long-term value of such systems.

“This is a major milestone in our journey with ABB,” said GridBeyond in a statement. “Battery storage systems help enhance grid stability, integrate renewable energy sources, and improve cost efficiency for C&I customers. Our combined resources with ABB and Tallarna will deliver successful, scalable solutions.”

Tim Meanock, CEO and co-founder of Tallarna, added, “Together with GridBeyond and ABB, we are removing the barriers to energy storage adoption. BESS-as-a-Service offers a reliable, sustainable, and profitable solution for businesses navigating the evolving energy landscape.”
