GE Vernova Inc. has unveiled two major advancements to its FLEXINVERTER platform, targeting improvements in energy efficiency, project cost reduction, and global accessibility for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The first innovation is the launch of the FLEXINVERTER 1.5kV solution, which integrates silicon carbide (SiC) technology to boost the performance of BESS applications. By leveraging SiC, the new inverter design offers greater electrical efficiency, compact form factors, higher power density, and reduced cooling needs. These benefits contribute to lower energy losses, a smaller system footprint, and ultimately reduce the levelized cost of storage (LCoS) and overall engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) expenses.

Simultaneously, GE Vernova is expanding its 2kV FLEXINVERTER for photovoltaic (PV) plants beyond the United States to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) markets, which include much of Europe, Asia, Africa, and other global regions adhering to IEC standards. The 2kV system provides developers with significant balance of system (BOS) cost advantages by enabling the use of smaller cables, minimizing energy losses, and increasing system efficiency.

These innovations were engineered at GE Vernova’s Berlin-based development center and will be manufactured in Chennai, India, and Pittsburgh, USA. The company is ramping up its manufacturing capacity, particularly in Pittsburgh, where a new production line is expected to add over 270 jobs, with Chennai also scaling operations to meet international demand.

Ed Torres, Business Leader for Power Conversion & Storage at GE Vernova, highlighted the impact of these upgrades, stating the new technologies are expected to drive improved project economics, greater operational efficiency, and more sustainable energy solutions. Initial shipments are anticipated to begin in the first half of 2026.
