JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has entered into a significant Pumped Hydro Storage Power Procurement Agreement (PHSPPA) with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL). The agreement marks a major milestone in India’s renewable energy journey, entailing the procurement of 1,500 MW / 12,000 MWh of pumped hydro energy storage capacity.

Under the terms of the PHSPPA, JSW Neo Energy will supply energy storage services for a period of 40 years, during which it will receive a fixed capacity charge of ₹77.2 lakhs per MW per annum. The energy storage facility will be developed in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, with a daily discharge capacity of 8 hours—out of which 6 hours can be delivered continuously.

The project is scheduled for commissioning within the next six years and is designed to significantly enhance grid reliability and peak power availability in the state.

With this agreement, JSW Energy’s total committed energy storage portfolio rises to 28.3 GWh, which includes 26.4 GWh from pumped storage projects (PSP). The company remains on track to achieve its target of 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030.
