Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Adani Saur Urja (KA) Limited, has signed a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to supply 1,250 MW of energy storage capacity. The agreement follows the receipt of a Letter of Award (LOA) issued through an e-Reverse Auction conducted by UPPCL

The 40-year PPA involves energy procurement from pumped hydro storage projects (PHSP), a key technology in India’s renewable energy roadmap due to its ability to stabilize the grid and provide round-the-clock clean energy. The annual fixed cost under the agreement is set at ₹76,53,226 per MW per annum, exclusive of applicable taxes

This project will significantly contribute to India’s mission of integrating large-scale renewable energy into the power grid, aligning with the country’s target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030. Pumped hydro storage enables energy generated from sources like solar to be stored and dispatched when needed, offering benefits such as peak shaving, load balancing, and frequency regulation.

The project reinforces AGEL’s strategic shift toward incorporating utility-scale energy storage in its green portfolio. With this latest milestone, AGEL further cements its leadership in India’s renewable energy landscape while demonstrating its commitment to sustainable, resilient infrastructure.

The LOA was formally received by AGEL on the evening of February 24, 2025
