Kehua Assists Smooth Grid Connection of Large-Scale Thermal Power Storage and Frequency Modulation Project on China’s South Coast

Recently, the 26MW/13MWh energy storage and frequency modulation project of Guangdong Yangxi Thermal Power Plant was successfully connected to the grid and began trial operation.

Yangxi Thermal Power Plant is located in the southwest of Guangdong Province and adjacent to the South China Sea. It is a typical area with high temperature, high humidity and high salt fog. Such “three high” problems bring challenges to the reliability of the energy storage systems.

After many in-depth investigations on the project site, thorough analysis of thermal power unit operating data, and several simulation designs and test verifications, Kehua finally customized a converter and booster turnkey solution for the project. The solution consists of 10 sets of 2.5MW and 1 set of 1.25MW energy storage boost conversion systems, with 25 containers arranged in an array.

In order to effectively solve the heat dissipation problem caused by the centralized arrangement of containers, Kehua adopted an anti-interference heat dissipation design. The performance indicators of each equipment in the system are optimized and adjusted according to the actual situation of the project. The ultra-high protection level cabinet can effectively resist the “three high” environment.

The technical head of Kehua Yangxi project said: “Our goal is not only to meet the basic requirements of the project but also to maximize the service life and ensure the safety and reliability of the system so that we can provide customers with the best solutions and create higher value”. The team leader also emphasizes that the energy storage system can significantly improve the service quality of existing thermal power units, thereby effectively improving the level of energy saving and emission reduction on the power generation side, which indicates the project’s demonstration significance for the construction of strong power grids in coastal areas.
